Thomas Grell is a rising force in the world of bass guitar, having supplied his unique brand of playing to various bands and recording projects over the years. His progressive and energetic approach to the instrument has earned him plenty of high praise from fellow musicians and fans alike, and his stylistic flexibility has allowed him the ability to participate in virtually any musical endeavor.
Having grown up in the small town of Addison, NY, Thomas's love for music was evident early on. He participated in both school band and choir groups, playing many concerts with both the school band and choir through middle school. It was around this time that Thomas had truly discovered recorded music: ELP, Alanis Morissette, TOTO, Boston, and Jimi Hendrix. He often carried a CD player throughout high school to absorb as much music as he could, as often as possible.
Thomas started on his own musical adventure as an American expatriate in Budapest, Hungary with the instruction of Kónya István and a spark for knowledge in his instrument. The spark that started this journey was soon nurtured into a healthy flame, his professional career starting in 2009 when he moved back into the United States. He found himself in a broad range of projects early on, and was quickly out and playing shows on the East Coast.
Throughout his stay in his full-time bands, Thomas also spent plenty of time recording at home and offering his services as a session player, as well as teaching lessons over the internet. He is fully committed and completely dedicated to his playing, his band, and his fans, and will continue to be for many years to come.
"I just love playing", he remarks. "Its something that I love to do. Its something that I live to do. If people listen, that just makes it better."
